Stop the Bleed® is a national awareness campaign developed by the American College of Surgeons. It was created in response to mass casualty events and the recognition that trained bystanders can save lives before first responders arrive.
The program was developed following the 2012 Sandy Hook tragedy, where experts identified that trained bystanders could have saved lives. It is now taught to over 2.1 million people nationwide — including law enforcement, military, and everyday citizens.
Krav Maga Renton is proud to bring this free certified training to our community in partnership with UW Medicine Valley Medical Center. This is exactly the kind of real-world preparedness we believe everyone should have.
— Coach MC, Krav Maga Renton
Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death in trauma. First responders average 7–10 minutes response time. A person can bleed out in under 3 minutes. You could be the difference.
In 60 minutes you'll learn the three proven techniques that stop life-threatening bleeding until emergency services arrive.
The immediate response. Use your hands to apply firm, direct pressure to the wound. Learn proper positioning, how much pressure to apply, and how to maintain it until help arrives.
Pack the wound with gauze or available materials and apply sustained pressure. Learn wound packing technique, proper dressing application, and how to handle different wound types.
For severe limb bleeding — wrap, wind, secure, record the time. Learn proper placement, how tight is enough, and when to use it vs. direct pressure.
Stop the Bleed® is a registered service mark of the Department of Defense · Presented with UW Medicine Valley Medical Center
This class is taught by a certified Stop the Bleed® instructor with extensive real-world trauma experience — not by Coach MC. We specifically brought in a medical professional with the credentials to deliver this training at the highest standard.
Katherine began her medical journey as a volunteer fire fighter at 16. Her career spans trauma centers from Level I to IV, sexual assault nursing, and now trauma program coordination at one of the region's busiest Level III facilities. She is also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner — which is how this collaboration came together.
At Krav Maga Renton, we train people to handle real-world threats — not trophies. Stop the Bleed® is a natural extension of that mission. Knowing how to defend yourself matters. Knowing how to save a life after an emergency matters just as much.
This class is open to the entire community — no membership required. Bring a friend, a coworker, or a family member.
After the class, try a free Krav Maga session. Same mindset — real-world preparedness, practical skills, no fluff.
